Spotlight Wichita Falls - Local Artist Jack Stevens

Todays Spotlight is honoring a local artist by the name of Jack Stevens.

When we began looking into the art that is adorning our city we came across the name Jack Stevens often.  His art includes the Wee Chi Ta statue, the bicyclists at MSU and the beautiful mustangs at MSU.   Stevens opened his studio in the 70's and began making creating the amazing works of art for Texhoma.  He learned about bronze (which he is most famous for) as a medium for art work after visiting a museum in Fort Worth Texas.  Once he had the tools and molds he began working full time from his home in Iowa Park.  In all Stevens has 9 larger than life bronze statues in Wichita County.  Spanning from Wichita Falls, Iowa Park and Burkburnett.  To view his website visit jackstevensgallery.com

2017 Jack Stevens decided to put away his tools and retire.  As we were researching and photographing we were saddened to hear that only just a little over a year ago (May 2019)  he passed away.  He is a truly talented man and we can't be thankful enough he has decorated the wonderful city we call home.

Smooches,
Lucy
