Meds and Food Fiasco

We stopped at sonic for a tea after the vet cause mommas head was spinning.  We went from thinking Lucy had cushings or worse to its just severe allergies, new meds and new food.  *SLOW BLINK*  So we got to researching the food.  If bought in the same 30 pound size bag its the same cost.  Bummer is we just bought food not long ago....so we have a lot of food.  But Lucys gotta feel better and salmon formula has lots of good stuffs in it for skin health.  There were two types of Pro Plan Salmon (what Dr. Lehman recommended) so we went with the Irish setter (remember this for later in the post) as its limited ingredients and specifically says sensitive skin.

We decided to put everything away concerning the vet and go hang out wif doggy nanny.  Gotta let our heads rest...mostly mommas.  BOL  We played ourselves out, had to be carried to the car and slept the whole way home.  Once home we got all the meds lined up and ready.  Everything is twice daily.  So kind of easy to remember.

Momma in her tired state got on petsmart and ordered the new food.  Sadly it was too late for same day delivery but we could get it next day so not a big deal.  We had a normal dinner and went to bed.  The next morning momma got all flustered for some reason.  It may have had something to do with me getting sick from the vaccine in the middle of the night.  She said she had a lot on her mind.  We got the notification the dog food was delivered around lunch.  Before we could even get mommas shoes on the land lord brought it back.  Thanks!

We had already had brekkie so we just put it in the corner and would switch out the bags from the container.  As momma was on tiktok....she looked over and saw something funny on the bag of food.  It was a furry dog....but not the right dog.  It was a golden retriever not an Irish setter.  Dagnabbit!  That means we will have to reorder and return this one.

There were no delivery options but curbside was open so we made an order.  And double checked momma that it had the irish setter.

We did have to wait for the storms to pass (great thunder boomers btw) but made it over to Petsmart.

Momma got us a new food scoop and some wet foods just incase we protested the different kibble.  Which as im pawing this I realized she has been holding out on us.  We still 2 weeks later havent opened these cans.  HMMM...

Double and triple checked the dry food was correct.  We are good to go momma.

Once we got home we realized we now have almost 90 lb of dog kibble in the house.  Our  house is only 250 sq ft.  BOL!  Per the bag instructions we did a slow transition.  Here is Lucy with her first bowl.  I wasn't in the mood for pictures but will say it was delicious. Momma made this wonderful hand crafted gravy (edit by the momma - I poured hot water on the kibble to rehydrate it and give it some flavor and let it cool before serving) to pour on top so I guess no wet food is fine for now.

Not sure if Lucy breathed during her meal or just inhaled it.

But when she walked away this is what momma found.  A completely empty bowl.  BTW my bowl was empty too.

We stayed on a mix (old food, new food and homemade gravy) adding more and more salmon kibble every couple days.  We are now 100 percent on the salmon kibble and gravy.  Momma made up a little card to remember the correct serving amounts to give us twice daily.  We made her put a pic of the bag with the irish setter on the back for the one thats kept on our food keeper.  We can't have this wrong food business again.

Luckily Petsmart was so sweet and helped momma get that other bag of food back in the store and returned it with no issue.  We are gonna take our old food to Gracie soon.  Good thing she has no allergies.

After everything calmed down we realized Lucy was low on Apoquel.  We were able to get one additional refill through chewy.  It arrived the day she took her last pill.  Nice timing.  Before any more refills she will have to have bloodwork.  Sorry Sissy. But we can keep this diet and meds trail up in the mean time see if it gives her relief.

A little over 2 weeks in alls going well.  Sissys back is less red, the scabs are going away, no new ones have popped up, her eye is is normal (not red and squinty), and we still love the food.  We did find some salmon treats for sissy.  So shes thrilled about that.  I on the otherhand inherited all the current treats in the house.  SCORE!!!!

Last but not least here is a comparision from 3-31 (left) post grooming and 4-16 (right).
