When the Food Runs Out...

...I've had to resort to hauling the heavy dog dishes around.

I tip it over on my hoard...I mean collection of toys to show the hoomans it is empties.

I sniff the bottom for crumbs, to prove my hunger is real.

Then I add it to the pile of other dishes I have gathered and left on the couch from various locations.  The black one is my pawsonal turkey dish from the dining room.

OTCWF - Beginner Scent Work - Week 9 - Graduation

It's been the best 9 weeks ever!  Meeting new furiends, seeing old furiends, learning scent work and, on graduation week, doing a mock trial.

We arrived a bit early and watched the interior setup.  I was mesmerized.  Then every started trickling into the club.  We got the low down on the evenings events.  We would have contaniers in the puppy room, interiors in the mirror room as per usual.  This time there would be blind hides (pawrents had no idea where they were) and we would be timed just like in a real trial.

Between run the pawrents sat and chatted.  Momma and I also worked on my manners when people and puppies go by.  Its extra treats so I played along wif hers!

Trial 1 Containers: 2 rows of 5 identical boxes.  Kelly had her clipboard and timer.  As we entered we waited by the door until ready then the timer started as momma said "search".  I went down a few boxes, stopped at one gave an extra sniff.  Momma called alert.  Win!

Trail 2 Interiors: Approx 144 square feet with items lining the outer edges.  kennels, old treat bags, chairs, grooming table, step stool, cooler etc.  Started right to left.  I paused to get a better sniff of the kennel cause it had a blankie in it and momma though I had found it.  She called alert and was told no.  We continued on without being told where it was and bam.  I found it strong, looked back at momma to say yep dis be it fur real and went  back and sniffed again.  Miss Martha said, "thats it!"   She told momma thats what she needs to look for (high interest and that look back, or pawing done previously, thats me showing momma I did what you asked wheres my treat) was not just the slowing and interest in something.

Trial 3 Containers: Same set up different box location, no match, walked in, sniffed for a second, found it, momma alerted, and done.

Trail 4 Interiors: Same set up different location of the scent.  We walked into the ring went right to left again.  On the 3 object I came to I slowed, paused, kept putting my head under a hat atop a stool and gave momma the look back.  She called alert and WE GOT IT!!!!  Jackpot treats flowed in my direction.

Once we finished in interiors we were allowed to stay and watch the following students.  Momma was watching for the differences in pausing to sniff and stopped because they found the source.  Its easier to tell when its not your dog and your not on the timer.  BOL

Over all Miss Martha said that during all the runs we ranged from 25 seconds to 1 minute to 30 seconds.  During a real trial you have about 2 minutes in novice.  So we all were nice and steady on time.  Yipee!

After Interior trail 4 we sat near the Presa Canaria Kona (Fawn and Black).  We both showed interest in one another and momma asked his dad if we could greet one another.  Remembering my success with being eye level I got on the chair to do my greeting.  I sniffed his cute little ears, and his big adorable nose.  He sniffed my entire left side in one wiff.  Then I got all bouncy and flirty.  I might have even shook my toosh in his face...but no photo no proof.  But I totally did and it was fun!  (this was a pic of us the 1st week of class)

All too soon the 7pm class was coming in I got to see Bat Girl, Wolfie and Brody.  Sadly that meant it was time to bit farewell to Beginner Scent Work and my furiends.   We did have Miss Matha take a look at my birch jar (post on that soon) and she said it looked good.  At a trail they will do 2 drops per swab and we did 4 drops for a 12 swab jar.  So this summer thats what we will be using to practice.

Tons of Rain, A Rainbow and A Poodle on da Radar

Multiple days over multiple weeks recently we have had rain.

Momma kept tabs on the rain in the weather app.  Once she opened it and found a poodle storm brewing.  See it in the middle there just below the blue push pin.  It looks like a mini poodle in a show coat.

Momma enjoyed watching the storms roll in and out from her office window and showed us pictures every evening when she got off work.   eww!

As for us we were not happy.  Chilly rain drops hitting our defenseless bodies and having wet paws.  Oh it was almost too much to handle!

As those storms passed though we did get a little surprise.  A rainbow arching right over our building and disappearing into the clouds.  How magical!

Hopefully its dry where you are.

License, Rabies and Name Tags...Oh My!

Back in Kentucky we were "county" folk.  We didn't have ordinances or laws that governed what tags needed to be worn or leash laws.  In fact very few dogs even wore leashes and  collars let alone specific tags.  In the past mommas never made any of her dogs wear their rabies tags mainly due to the fact that they are so large and mommas always had tiny pups.  But also because she didn't want them to clank with the name tags causing damage and they didn't match.  Yes mommas a bit crazy but what can ya do?!?!  She provides treats its all good.  Heres a little throw back to KY showing my collar and singular name tag.

Now we are city dwelling pups there are ordinances to follow and Animal Control Officers are patrolling the streets.  Momma says she sees AC trucks 2-4 times  a week just in the little bit we drive.  Which is a good thing they are out and about ready to help animals in need.  Anyhoo...Now that she is an official city employee she is learning about all the ordinances for residents of WF.  Would you believe that you can't use sprinklers between 10am and 7pm.  Yep.  Its true.  Mommas gotten several tattlers...erm concerned citizens calling in regards to neighbors not following the ordinances.  Once reported momma dispatches a crew out to check on that resident.  Again I am getting off topic.

She then began looking up ordinances concerning dogs...cause well thats the next logical step.  BOL!  She found out that in addition to the city licenses a rabies tag must be worn at all times.  We did not know this prior to reading the ordinances.  Rabies tags is to prove the animal is current with vaccines (tag number matches up in vets computer system with a description of the animal), allows the finder to verify vaccine status with vet, and (in our vets case because they pawsonally engrave tags with name and phone number) provides identification.

Momma had a change of heart.  Safety (first and foremost) and local ordinances trump fashion, wear or tear.  She stripped us of our collars, grabbed our rabies/microchip tags out of our records bag, and began reorganizing our collars.  Ta-Da!  Complete.  With our rabies doubling as a name/ID tag we ditched the gray ovals for everyday use.  We added our rubber microchip tags as a silencer/buffer and alternate form of ID.  Last but not least City License tag denoting #Texaspride and that the city has us listed in their system, but mainly the #TexasPride.  Once secured on our collars we modeled and actually they werent all that bulky or big on us.  Now we are really street legal and ready to run....on leash of course.

We wear our tags and collar all day the only time they come off is when our doors are locked and we are snuggled up for bed.*

*Edit or supervised with momma doing a photo shoot of course

While I love my new tag set on my collar.  Something didn't feel right.  I Wanna Be Just Like Lucy!

I look up to my big sis-fur....party because she is taller than me but also because she is furry cool.  Have ya seen da cert-i-fit-i-kits she has in her book?!?!  Well after momma redid our tag situation I got to looking and my microchip tag didn't match Lucy's.  We gotta match we're sis-furs!

So while momma was at work I went online registered myself wif Homeagain under the basic service.  I still have my 24PetWatch Registration but now I will be dual registered.  Then I requested a taggie.

Short intermission awaiting the USPS to deliver.

I have Poppy Mail.

Its from HomeAgain.

Impawtant Message. Feel free to copy this photo and share.

There it is, my furry own dog house tag!  SQUEE!

All added...Now I can be just like Lucy.

Officially collared and tagged!

Momma Is A Cheater!

We were snooping...I mean just looking through mommas phone and look what we found.  Photos of dogs that are not us!  Momma calls this her work dog.  He comes to visit, gets snackies from the crews, and trots off at his leisure.

She says he comes by about 3 times a week.

Then we found this!  She is holding, snuggling and fawning over this thing!  Disgusting!

She tried to get rid of the little furs the puppy left behind...but it was no match for my sniffer I found the exact spot where she was on mommas shirt.  I am a scent dog for heavens sake!

I just don't understand why she would cheat on us.  In related news momma added more LuPop decor to her desk.  Its our old grey tags.  More on why they are not on our collars in tomorrows post.
